Feather is on a mission to make insurance straightforward and transparent. We want to make it easier than ever for people to start a new life abroad, so we’re building an insurance companion that has your back across all of Europe — taking care of the complicated bits so you can focus on your new start. We succeeded in creating an experience our people love (see our Trustpilot and Google reviews), but we were only at the beginning of the journey.
We’re looking for a Product Designer to help us rethink what insurance can be. Banking has seen a wave of innovation — now it’s insurance’s turn. You’ll be joining a talented team of 4-5 designers and a senior user researcher, within a broader company of about 65. We’re still small, so you’ll be an integral part of a collaborative team, working closely with engineers, product managers, and customer support to bring clarity and simplicity to every touchpoint.
This is a full-time and remote position within Europe.
Why work at Feather?
- Small team, flat hierarchy, and mission-driven. The usual buzzwords here, except we mean them. We’re small, lean, and we love what we're doing.
- Flexible remote work policy. We offer a remote-first work environment with an office in Berlin. We host regular company retreats, team dinners, and meetups to gather with your colleagues.
- €1,200 annual learning budget. You can spend this time educating yourself through books, conferences, classes, etc.
- €500 office furnishing budget. On top of all the company equipment that you'll be getting (MacBook, monitor…), you'll be able to spend €500 on a nice and comfortable home office setup.
- 4-month sabbatical. After 4 years at Feather, you can take 4 months off, with financial support from us, to do whatever energizes you: travel the world, write a book, volunteer, or just unwind.
- Modern processes. Our processes have purpose, which is why we only make new ones when they're helpful. We only use tools that allow us to enjoy our work (so no JIRA), like Figma, Notion, Linear, Slack, and a few others.
What you bring to the table
- You have a good design foundation — interaction design, information architecture, and visual design. You’re fluent in modern product patterns, and your portfolio reflects that.
- You have high agency. We won’t tell you what to do. Everyone at Feather figures out what matters most and gets it done. That’s the magic.
- You keep things lean. You prioritize decisively, have a low tolerance for fluff, and are laser-focused on creating real value for users. You know when to tweak the pixels — and when to leave them alone.
- You think in systems. You love spotting patterns and interconnections. You know how to build components that are flexible because they excel at a few things, not everything.
- You reason clearly. We find the best solutions in collaboration, so you should be able to juggle constraints in your mind and clearly explain the pros and cons of each alternative.
- Excellent communication in English. You’ll be doing a lot of UX writing and shaping how the product sounds.
You’ll be responsible for
- Contributing to the overall product strategy and direction by pitching new projects for the roadmap and helping us prioritize existing ones
- Creating new platform features and improving existing ones across all touchpoints of the user journey. E.g. building trust, receiving a recommendation, purchasing a product, managing policies, and making claims.
- Maintaining and growing our design system
- Collaborating with user research to better understand our user’s needs
- Being the mediator of customer needs, business goals, and technical efficiency
- Sharing design knowledge with the rest of the company
What will the interview process look like?
The whole process takes about 1-3 weeks.
1. Send us your portfolio. You don’t need to write a book about your case studies, we won’t have time to read them, put lots of screenshots of your projects instead.
2. Initial call — We'll have a chat over Google Meet and talk shortly about projects you've worked on.
3. Live task — You’ll work on a design task during a video call. It lasts 1.5h and is unrelated to insurance. This will help us understand how you think, collaborate, and what your skill profile is like.
4. 3 chats with team members — You'll meet more people from Feather to get a better sense of what it feels like being in the team.
5. Offer!
Does this sound like you? Apply now!
- We continuously work to have inclusive representation within our teams and embrace a diverse mix of talent to contribute to our culture.
- We also encourage people without degrees to apply: we believe that what you've worked on and achieved is way more important than on-paper qualifications.
About us
Feather was founded in 2018 by Rob Schumacher and Vincent Audoire after both of them struggled to navigate the insurance system in Germany (even though they are European). They wanted to create insurance products that were as simple as they knew it could be.
That’s why we’re building insurance to make all interactions easier and more transparent: from signing up and filing a claim to canceling. Our goal is to give people honest, unbiased advice, with the information they need to make the right decision. And, because of how complicated insurance is, we offer tools, articles, and support where people can reach out to a human about problems or questions they have.
Currently, Feather has helped people from over 150 countries get insurance digitally and is expanding quickly.
