We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Finance Associate / Bookkeeper (f/m/x) who enjoys being close to the numbers and thinking about how things could be done better.
Finance at Feather isn’t just about closing the books — it’s about creating clarity, enabling good decisions, and building systems that scale. You’ll own our day-to-day financial operations end to end — from manual payment runs and reconciliations to building better reporting and automating processes as we grow.
You’ll report to our Finance Operations Manager, work closely with our external tax advisor, and collaborate across the business.
This role is ideal for someone who already has experience in German bookkeeping, loves operational finance, and wants to actively shape how a modern finance function works today — not just maintain the status quo.
Why apply to Feather?
- Shape the Function. Help define how finance operates in a growing, modern company
- Hands-On Impact. From daily operations to smarter reporting — your work will be visible and valued
- Ownership & Trust. You’ll have real responsibility and the freedom to improve things
- Flexible Setup. Berlin-based or EU remote, full-time or part-time possible
- Collaborative Culture. Finance is a partner to the business, not a gatekeeperYour profile
Your profile
- Completed training or degree in accounting or finance (e.g. Steuerfachangestellte:r, Buchhalter:in, or similar)
- Experience in hands-on bookkeeping, ideally in a German startup or SME
- Strong knowledge of German tax law
- Experience with DATEV (Unternehmen Online) or similar accounting/payroll tools
- A pragmatic, detail-oriented working style — you’re comfortable getting your hands dirty
- A builder mindset. You enjoy automating, improving, and rethinking processes
- A service-oriented attitude when working with colleagues
- Fluent German (C1/C2) for official documentation and communicating with authorities
- Professional working proficiency in English for internal collaboration
Nice to have
- Hands-on payroll processing experience, preferably using DATEV (Unternehmen online)
- Experience or strong interest in controlling, such as:
- Budget tracking and cost control
- Supporting management reporting and forecasts
What will you be doing?
- Financial Operations & Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate and reliable financial records in line with HGB
- Own accounts payable and receivable, including invoice processing, reconciliations, and payment runs (including hands-on work when needed)
- Prepare monthly pre-accounting and support smooth month-end and year-end closings with external accountants
- Manage employee expenses, reimbursements, and corporate card reconciliations
- Support liquidity management, cash flow tracking, and payment scheduling
- Ensure structured, audit-ready documentation at all times
- Automation, Reporting & Process Improvement
- Actively question and improve how we run finance today
- Identify manual or inefficient workflows and help automate and scale them
- Build and improve financial reports that give the business real insight — not just numbers
- Help evolve our finance and payroll setup as the company grows
- Compliance & Trust
- Ensure compliance with German tax, social security, and reporting requirements
- Support audits and documentation requests confidently
- Handle sensitive financial and personal data securely and GDPR-compliantly
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Finance and People on budgeting, cost control, and reporting
- Support department leads with clear, timely financial information
- Be a service-minded contact for finance-related questions across the company
Nice to have
- Payroll Support
- Prepare and validate monthly payroll data and support timely salary payments

About Feather
Feather was founded in 2018 by Rob Schumacher and Vincent Audoire, who both faced unexpected challenges navigating Germany’s complex insurance system—even as Europeans themselves. Frustrated by the bureaucracy and lack of clarity, they set out to create a better experience: one that was simple, accessible, and transparent.
Their journey began as part of the first Entrepreneur First Berlin cohort, a program dedicated to helping ambitious individuals build impactful companies from scratch. This foundation enabled them to turn their idea into a mission—making insurance radically easier for everyone.
That’s why we’ve built Feather to simplify every step of the insurance experience—from signing up and filing claims to asking questions or canceling a policy. Our goal is to provide honest, unbiased advice and empower people with the clarity they need to make confident decisions. And because insurance is still too complicated, we offer human support, helpful articles, and easy-to-use tools for those moments when people need a little extra guidance.
To date, Feather has helped people from over 150 countries get insurance online—and we’re growing fast.
