Yes. Each policy you purchase stands on its own, with its own start date, sign-up, and cancellation notice. They're not linked like dependents on one plan. However they can, like all of your policies with Feather, be managed easily from one account!

It depends on the product. Expat Health: no problem, sign up before you arrive. Life insurance: you'll need to already be living somewhere in the EU, though not necessarily Germany yet. Legal insurance: you'll need to be registered in Germany first. No worries if you're not there yet for all three, with Feather, you can easily add Legal or Life to your account once you've made the move.

This plan is suitable for those who are:

• Newcomers relocating to Germany

• Students over 30

• Students under 30 who wish to use a private insurance instead of public health

• Freelancers or self employed

• Unemployed

• First time visa or residence permit seekers who are not yet on public or private health

You can easily add dependents to your expat health plan. Please note that each dependent will have to have their own policy, but we can add them all under one account for ease of access.

To add a dependent, simply:

1. Sign up for expat insurance for yourself first (or for the person you want to be the main policyholder)

2. Once you sign up, log into your Feather account and click on your expat policy.

3. Click 'add dependents' and sign up the dependent to whichever policy you wish. You don't have to purchase the same policy for each person.

Waiting periods are in place to prevent the misuse of legal insurance policies. Consider this scenario: an individual anticipates a forthcoming legal matter and signs up for legal insurance with the expectation that it will cover their attorney fees. However, this would immediately impose significant costs on the insurance provider. Hence, waiting periods are implemented, ensuring that the policy extends coverage only to unforeseen legal issues arising in the future after these waiting periods have elapsed. You can add your family during the sign-up process as long as you both are registered and live at the same address in Germany. Adding your partner will cost around €10 - much more cost effective than having separate policies.

Children under 18 and any unmarried adult children still in school are also included automatically under your policy.

Once your cover is active, you can choose who you’d like as your beneficiary. This could be your partner, child, a relative, or even a company — like your bank.

A good way to estimate your cover is to add up what your loved ones would need financially:

1. Around €10,000 per child, per year, until age 18 (or 23 if you’d like to support university)

2. The remaining balance on your mortgage (if you have one)

3. 3–5 years of living expenses if your partner depends on your income

4. An amount to cover funeral costs

If that's too complicated, you can get 3-5x your gross yearly salary, and it will be a good approximation.
