Pet health insurance in France

Surgery covers the costs directly related to medically necessary operations.

An operation is defined as a surgical procedure that is required to restore your pet’s health, performed under general anesthesia, sedation, or local anesthesia, and involves cutting through the skin or underlying tissue with an incision larger than a puncture.

Plus includes everything covered under Surgery and also covers other non-surgical treatments. This includes, for example, curative treatments and medication, preventive treatments, physiotherapy, and certain dental treatments.

An accident is a sudden and unforeseen event that affects your pet from the outside and causes physical harm. This also includes ingestion of foreign objects, poisoning (including food poisoning), and similar unexpected incidents.

An insured event is any illness, accident, or condition that entitles you to benefits under your insurance contract. It begins with the occurrence of the first clinically relevant symptoms, not the date of the vet visit.

To be eligible for coverage, the event must take place while the policy is active and after the waiting period has ended.

The initial contract term is one full year. After this period, you can submit a cancellation request at any time, and your policy will end on the last day of the month when you submit the request. This applies to both Surgery and Plus plans.

You can request a cancellation before the end of the first year in exceptional cases, such as when leaving Germany or if you no longer have your pet (supporting documentation required).

Yes. Your pet must be at least 8 weeks old and under 6 years old at the start of the coverage.

Certain pre-existing conditions may restrict you from taking out the insurance.

Castration or neutering is covered only after a 6-month waiting period and exclusively in case of a medical indication due to tumorous changes, inflammation of the reproductive organs, or hormone-dependent tumors.

If the procedure is done without one of these medical indications, it may still be covered under the Plus plan as a preventive treatment (yearly limit applies).
