Why sign up to public health insurance?

Self-employed

What if I don't belong to the categories here above?

As long as you are registered in Belgium as a resident, you can join a public health insurance fund.

However, if you're not paying social security contributions yet (or have never paid in the past), they might ask you to pay quarterly contributions of €912.21 before allowing you to join a public health insurance fund.
