That’s why we took the time to compare dental insurance plans available in Germany for you.
That’s why we took the time to compare dental policies in Germany and put together a dental insurance guide to help you navigate your options.
After comparing over 30 different dental insurance companies in Germany, we’ve narrowed it down to the 6 best for 2024.
Disclaimer:
The details of the policies mentioned may vary, as companies offer multiple plans. We focused on the one we found most compelling, but you may discover a better fit with further research (we also have tips on finding great dental insurance by yourself).
Our rankings follow a specific methodology, which we encourage you to review to ensure it aligns with your priorities. While we strive for accuracy, the choice is ultimately yours, and meeting with an insurance expert can help you compare your options better than this article can.
With that said, let’s look at who made the list in 2025.
Where to start looking for the best dental plans in Germany
Provider | Recommended for | Starting at | English support | Trustpilot rating |
Feather | English-speakers | €10.90 | Yes ✅ | 4.8/5 |
Ergo | Pre-existing conditions | €37.80 | Sometimes ❌ | 3.7/5 |
Württembergische | Long-term residents | €22.50 | No ❌ | 1.6/5 |
Allianz | Young children | €18.77 | Rarely ❌ | 4.1/5 |
1. Feather: Recommended for English Speakers
Our recommended plan: Standard
Pricing: from €10.90 per month
Strengths | Weaknesses |
English support available via voice and video calls, email, and chat. | The Advanced plan is more expensive than others in our rating. |
Submit your claims in less than 3 minutes with Feather’s mobile app | Coverage limits apply for major treatments in the first 3 years. |
Get treatment from day one (no waiting periods). | Doesn’t cover purely cosmetic treatments. |
Covers many preventative treatments. | |
Includes professional dental cleaning (€150 per year with no deductible). |
Our Take
Feather is (unsurprisingly) our favorite dental insurance of 2024.
Why?
It provides excellent coverage when your plan starts, so you can get dental care from day one.
The plan also gets better the longer you have it, as coverage limits increase yearly.
Even if there are some limits during the first years for a few major treatments, the good news is that any unused coverage rolls over into the next year. So, unless you need something big immediately, this works to your advantage.
The Advanced plan from Feather is perfect for those who want to upgrade their coverage, especially regarding tooth replacement (think implants, bridges, crowns, and inlays).
Rated 4.8 out of 5, Feather is one of Germany’s best-rated insurance. And for good reasons, too:
- The customer service team is responsive.
- Everyone there is an English speaker; no “Deutsch” needed.
- You can meet with them to see if the policy is a good fit, and trust advice is unbiased: Feather’s experts don’t earn commissions.

This is our list, and with 7+ years of insurance experience and great client reviews, we’ve earned a top spot for expats in Germany. That said, feel free to take it with as many grains of salt as you’d like.

2. Ergo: Recommended for those with pre-existing conditions
Our recommended plan: Zahnzusatzversicherung Sofort (ZEZ)
Pricing: from €37.80 per month
Strengths | Weaknesses |
Covers ongoing dental treatments. | The most expensive plan in our comparison. |
No limits on coverage in the first years. | Two-year contract before cancellation is allowed. |
Up to 100% coverage on all treatments. | No English-speaking support. |
Our Take
Ergo’s ZEZ plan is (very) pricey, especially with its two-year commitment, but it’s one of the only plans that covers ongoing treatments.
This makes it our recommendation for people with dental issues who need continuous care.
If you’re reading this post because you recently visited the dentist and need immediate coverage, this plan is for you.
Its lack of coverage limits in the early years and complete treatment coverage are significant advantages for those with existing conditions.
Ergo has a 3.6 out of 5 rating.
So, while the service has had hiccups (36% of their reviews are 1-star), the plan is worth it if you need insurance for ongoing treatments.
Disclaimer
We focused on the ZEZ plan because we think it is worth bringing to your attention if you have pre-existing conditions, bzt Ergo also provides additional dental insurance plans starting at €16 per month. Please note that the strengths and weaknesses related to coverage details are based on this specific plan.
These plans don’t offer the same benefits for pre-existing conditions but have comparable coverage to other plans in this rating. Please visit Ergo’s website for more details.
3. Württembergische: Recommended for long-term residents
Our recommended plan: ZahnSchutz Premium
Pricing: from €22.50 per month
Strengths | Weaknesses |
no waiting periods. | 2nd most expensive plan in our rating. |
100% coverage for dental prostheses. | No English-speaking customer support. |
Accepts treatments above the typical price (Fee Schedule for Dentists, or GOZ). | Pre-existing conditions significantly increase its price and limit possible reimbursements. |
High reimbursement amounts, even in the first few years. | Limits apply for five years (the longest time in our rating). |
Our Take
The ZahnSchutz Premium plan from Württembergische is a good choice for long-term residents who want top-notch dental coverage.
Among the plans we compared, it provides (on average) the highest coverage for most treatments, especially dental prostheses.
Before signing up, you should know this coverage has three tradeoffs:
- You’ll get solid benefits from the start, but the full coverage doesn’t kick in until five years after you sign up. With that said, the limits in the early years are generous.
- Another major downside is the lack of English-speaking support, which could be an issue for non-German speakers.
- Finally, the company’s 1.6 out of 5 rating is something to keep in mind if you think this reflects service quality.
Disclaimer
We focused on the ZahnSchutz Premium plan because we’ve found it to offer some of the most comprehensive benefits. Still, other companies offer similar coverage, sometimes at a higher or lower price. Please note that the strengths and weaknesses related to coverage details are based on this specific plan.
Württembergische also offers more affordable plans (with a coverage tradeoff), starting at 10.75€, with benefits comparable to others in our rating. Please visit Württembergische’s website for more details.
4. Allianz: Recommended for families with young children
Our recommended plan: MeinZahnschutz 100
Pricing: from €18.77 per month
Strengths | Weaknesses |
Up to €3,000 covered for braces and orthodontic treatments started before age 21. | Two-year contract before cancellation is allowed. |
“Innovation guarantee” ensures that newly developed treatments can be added to your coverage. | Difficult to contact English-speaking customer support. |
Unlimited, 100% coverage for dental cleanings each year. | Significant price increases for those with existing conditions, like missing teeth. |
Our Take
Allianz is a top option for families with young children, especially with its generous €3,000 coverage for orthodontics—the highest among the plans we reviewed.
Plus, Allianz covers an unlimited amount of fully covered dental cleanings (another big plus for maintaining dental health). Note that dentist recommend only two per year, though.
Allianz doesn’t offer English-speaking support either, which could be a barrier for non-German speakers.
For families worried about potential orthodontic expenses, Allianz offers great value.
Disclaimer
We focused on the MeinZahnschutz 100 plan because it offers the best orthodontics coverage, which is a common treatment for children. However, Allianz offers a range of plans that cater to individuals in different situations, which could offer better value depending on your priorities. Visit Allianz’s website for more information.
Please note that the strengths and weaknesses related to coverage details are based on this specific plan.
Our methodology
Below is a breakdown of our methodology for compiling our list:
- First, we contacted our internal insurance experts to identify 20 different contenders.
- We then obtained quotes and sample policies for each company’s plans. In total, we had around 60 policies to compare.
- From there, we dug into the fine print. Specifically, we looked at:
- The plan’s price
- What it covers
- What it does not cover
- Coverage limits
- Deductibles
- We supplemented via customer reviews on Trustpilot — to use as a proxy for customers’ satisfaction (an imperfect metric, as unhappy customers are more likely to leave negative reviews than happy customers are to leave a positive one; this results in a negative bias for companies with a larger customer base). Please note that you could obtain a more comprehensive overview of these companies’ ratings by exploring other sites like Google Reviews, Yelp, and others. We last visited these companies’ ratings (and updated this post’s metrics) on the 7th of February, 2025.
- Finally, we contacted the company’s helpline on 10 occasions over 3 weeks — at different times and days — to determine if they could redirect us to an English-speaking representative.
Conclusion
Well, here it is, our list of, what we think are some of the top contenders for the best dental insurance in Germany.
We’ve tried to give you a comprehensive overview, but the most impartial feedback comes from other customers.
We highly recommend checking out a company’s online ratings to ensure the plan best suits your needs, budget, and expectations. Better yet, talk to an insurance broker about your individual situation so they may assist you in your search.
