What is the Malta Retirement Programme?
The Malta Retirement Programme (MRP) is a special tax status for pensioners who make Malta their home. It comes with a residence permit.
Tax benefits
Foreign income you bring into Malta is taxed at a flat 15%, with a minimum of €7,500 a year (plus €500 per dependent).
What you'll need to show
Your pension has to make up at least 75% of your taxable income, and it has to be paid into Malta. You'll also need a home in Malta, bought for at least €275,000 (€220,000 in Gozo or the south), or rented for at least €9,600 a year (€8,750 in Gozo or the south).
How long can you stay?
Only 90 days a year, averaged over five years, as long as you don't spend more than 183 days in any other single country. The status itself runs indefinitely, as long as you keep meeting the conditions.
A policy built for the MRP

Continuous coverage
MRP status isn't granted once and forgotten. You confirm your conditions in an annual declaration, and a lapse in health insurance can cost you the status itself. Your Feather policy renews continuously, so there's nothing to rebuild each year.

Comprehensive coverage
As an MRP beneficiary you won't be paying Maltese social security, so public healthcare entitlement is limited or nonexistent for most holders. This policy is designed to be your primary coverage, with full hospitalization and outpatient care.

Made for a two-country life
Spending 90 days in Malta and the rest of the year elsewhere in Europe is exactly what the MRP allows. Your coverage doesn't care which EU country you spend your time. Living worldwide? Check out our international health insurance.
