What is the Malta Nomad Residence Permit?
The Nomad Residence Permit is Malta's digital nomad program. It lets non-EU nationals live in Malta while working remotely for an employer, their own company, or clients based outside Malta. You can apply online, and if your nationality needs one, a National Visa is issued so you can travel to Malta to collect your card.
What you'll need to show
A gross income of at least €42,000 a year (€3,500 a month) from your remote work, proven with contracts and three months of bank statements. You'll also need a clean record, a valid passport, and proof that your employer or clients are based outside Malta.
After you're approved
Residency Malta first issues a Letter of Approval in Principle. You then have 30 days to submit proof of accommodation in Malta and a health insurance policy covering your full permit year. After that, you travel to Malta, give your biometrics, and pay €100 for your residence card.
Renewing and staying longer
The permit is issued for one year and can be renewed annually, up to four years in total. Each renewal costs €300 and asks for the same proof again, plus evidence you spent at least five cumulative months in Malta over the past twelve.
A policy built for the Nomad Residence Permit

One policy for approval and renewal
Residency Malta checks your health insurance more than once: within 30 days of your Letter of Approval in Principle, and again at every annual renewal. Your Feather policy renews with you, so the same coverage carries you from year one to year four.

Access to healthcare
Malta's public healthcare is tied to social security contributions from local employment, and your work is abroad by definition. Nomad Residence Permit holders don't get access to the public system, so private health insurance covers your entire stay, from day one to your last.
