The Italian Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) launched in 2024 and is one of the most accessible long-stay routes for non-EU remote workers and freelancers. It's designed for people who work remotely for non-Italian employers, or as self-employed professionals serving clients outside Italy.
To apply, you'll need to show an annual income of at least €28,000 for a single applicant (rising to around €34,000 for a couple, plus around €1,550 per dependent child), either a university degree or three or more years of professional experience in your field, proof of accommodation in Italy, and comprehensive health insurance valid for the duration of your stay.
The visa is issued for one year and renewed annually, up to a maximum of three years on the DNV. After that, you can transition to another permit type, and after five years of continuous legal residence in Italy you can apply for the long-term EU residence permit. Unlike the work visa, the DNV isn't subject to the Decreto Flussi quota and is open year-round.

The DNV isn't just a visa to get through. It's up to three years of working and living in Italy, with annual renewals at the Questura. Feather is built to support the whole cycle, not just the consulate appointment.
The same Feather policy supports your initial DNV application, your permesso di soggiorno application, and each annual renewal. Whenever your situation changes, we'll help you transition to the right long-term option.
Italian consulates require proof of insurance valid for the full duration of your visa. Your Feather policy is paid monthly by default, but the certificate clearly states that the policy is valid for a minimum of one year and renewable, which is what the consulate accepts. If you'd rather pay upfront for 12 months, just get in touch and we'll arrange it.
Unlimited coverage for new conditions, full hospitalisation, outpatient care, and Schengen-wide validity. Designed to be your primary health coverage in Italy, including when you're traveling for work.

The DNV is built for people working remotely for non-Italian employers or clients. If your situation looks different, there are two other long-stay routes worth considering.
For people with a job offer from an Italian employer. The employer applies for your work authorisation first, then you apply for the visa at the consulate. Subject to the annual Decreto Flussi quota
For people with €31,000+ a year in passive income (pensions, investments, rental income) who won't be working in Italy. Open year-round. Health insurance is required for the application.
