Thailand's hospitals are some of the best in Asia: 60+ meet international quality standards. But its public system isn't built for you. The main public scheme (Gold Card) is for Thai citizens. There's a social security scheme too, but you can only join it if you work for a Thai employer with a work permit.
If you're here on a retirement, Long-Term Resident, or Smart visa, private insurance is required.

Thailand has three public health schemes, and most expats can't use any of them. The Gold Card is for Thai citizens. Social security is for employees with a work permit. The third is for civil servants. If you're on a retirement visa, Long-Term Resident visa, digital nomad visa, or Elite visa, you won't qualify.
On the other hand, private hospitals in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket offer excellent English-speaking care.

You'll spot pharmacies by their green cross. There are 17,000+ across the country. Big chains like Boots and Watsons have bilingual staff, and Bangkok has 24-hour pharmacies near major hospitals.
One thing to know: many medicines that need a prescription back home (like antibiotics or antidepressants) are sold over the counter here.

Dial 1669 for an ambulance. For English-speaking help, the Tourist Police on 1155 are often your best first call: they're fluent and available 24/7.
Ambulances reach you in 10–20 minutes in Bangkok, longer in rural areas. Private hospital groups run their own ambulance and air-evacuation services, too.

Care here is excellent, but without cover, it's not cheap. A private GP visit runs about THB 3,600 (€95), and a day in a top Bangkok hospital can cost around THB 27,500 (€730).
If you work for a Thai employer, social security takes about 5% of your wages (capped at THB 875/month in 2026), and your employer matches it. There's a three-month wait for non-work illnesses. It covers most costs, but only at your assigned hospital.
Our plans start at €56/month for Essential and €84/month for Plus. Both cover you at private hospitals like Bumrungrad, Bangkok Hospital, Samitivej, and MedPark.
Most long-stay visas in Thailand require private cover. Thresholds range from THB 400,000 (€10,600) to THB 3 million in cover (around €79,500).

Both Feather plans meet the minimum levels of cover Thai immigration expects.
Your proof of cover and English-language certificates land in your account the moment you sign up.

“They don't sugar coat the insurances, if they don't provide the best option, they would help you understand what's the best one.”
