Singapore has some of the best hospitals in the world, but as a foreigner, you don't get the subsidies that make them affordable for locals. The public system is built for citizens and permanent residents, so on a work or visit pass, you'll pay full price.
And full price is steep. A private GP visit runs about SGD 140 (€94), and a day in hospital can cost around SGD 1,250 (€840). A week in intensive care can top SGD 50,000 (€33,650). Private cover is what keeps those numbers from landing on you.

Singapore's healthcare is world-class. Public hospitals and neighborhood polyclinics are heavily subsidized by the government and reserved for citizens or permanent residents. Foreigners use private GPs and private hospitals (or pay unsubsidized rates at public ones). The upside: English is an official language here, so your care is English-speaking wherever you go.

Pharmacies are everywhere. Guardian and Watsons run hundreds of stores between them, and Unity adds 90+ more, most of which have a licensed pharmacist on hand. A few stay open 24/7, including Mustafa Pharmacy in Little India. You'll find over-the-counter medicines, but antibiotics and stronger drugs require a prescription. English labeling and advice are standard.

Dial 995 for an ambulance. It's free, available 24/7, and operators handle calls in English. For non-urgent transport (like a scheduled hospital transfer), use 1777 instead. One thing to know: a 995 ambulance takes you to the nearest public hospital. If you'd rather be treated privately, you may need to make your own way there.

Singapore is one of the most expensive places in the world for healthcare, so the bills add up fast without coverage. A private GP visit runs about SGD 140 (€94), a day in hospital costs around SGD 1,250 (€840), and a private C-section starts at about SGD 6,867 (€4,620).
Singapore's public healthcare is built on three schemes: MediSave, MediShield Life, and MediFund, all funded through the national savings system (Central Provident Fund, or CPF). But it's only for citizens and permanent residents. Foreigners on work passes don't get the subsidies, and the top hospital wards often bill them at rates that match or beat those of private hospitals.
Our plans start at €105/month for Essential and €157.50/month for Plus. You'll get outpatient and inpatient care, plus extras like dental, mental health, maternity, and medical evacuation.
S Pass and Work Permit holders must have employer-paid cover of at least SGD 60,000 (€40,380) a year for hospital care. Other work passes (Employment Pass, ONE Pass, Tech.Pass, and EntrePass) have no set requirement.

While not mandatory, health insurance is highly recommended for all people spending time in Singapore due to high healthcare costs.
