Why get international health insurance in Malta?

Required for your permit

No accepted certificate, no final approval. This is the cover Identità checks for.

Until you qualify locally, private cover is what protects you from day one.

Real health insurance, recognised for your permit

Feather International Health is underwritten by Barmenia, a BaFin-regulated German health insurer, and managed in English by Feather. That matters for Malta, because authorities accept genuine health insurance, not the travel cover most "expat insurance" turns out to be.

See exactly what you are covered for

From inpatient and outpatient care to emergency medical repatriation, both plans meet Malta's requirements, with no waiting period for illness or accident treatment. Essential is your visa-and-everyday plan. Plus is your life-abroad plan, adding mental health, routine maternity and preventive care.

View the full coverage details for both plans, Essential and Plus, to find the right fit.

What Malta requires and how we meet it

€100,000 minimum

Malta asks for at least €100,000. Feather starts at €300,000 on Essential and reaches €2,500,000 on Plus.

EU and UK territory

Cover across the EU and the UK, not just Schengen. That is the part standard expat policies miss, and the usual reason a certificate gets rejected.

A full year, paid upfront

Malta needs cover valid for 12 months and paid annually in advance. That is exactly how this policy is issued for the permit. You can choose to pay yearly at checkout.

Who is this for?

Nomad Residence Permit

On Malta's Nomad Residence Permit, your cover has to reach beyond Schengen to the EU and the UK, run for a full year, and be real health insurance, not travel cover. Feather International Health is built for exactly that, with a certificate issued for your Identità file.

Residence permits and family reunification

Applying for Maltese residence, or bringing your family over? We issue a visa compliance certificate with the wording Identità checks, and one policy can cover you and all your dependants.

Work permits and professionals

oving to Malta for work? A work permit needs accepted health insurance and often a medical check. You get compliant cover from day one, well above the €100,000 minimum, and we tell you upfront if your case needs a quick medical review.

Global Residence Programme and long-term residents

Settling in Malta for the long term, or on the Global Residence Programme? Choose Plus for the widest protection, up to €2,500,000 a year including preventive care, or Essential for solid compliant cover. We accept applications up to age 74, older than most digital-first insurers.
