Indonesia's national health scheme (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial Kesehatan, or BPJS Kesehatan) doesn't cover everyone. It's mandatory after six months for most limited-stay (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas, or KITAS, which is a Limited Stay Permit Card) and permanent permit holders, but retirees, digital nomads, and Second Home visa holders are entirely shut out.
If that's you, private cover is your only safety net. And paying out of pocket adds up fast: a private GP visit runs about IDR 800,000 (€39), and a hospital night can cost around IDR 8.8 million (€425).
Plus, most KITAS visas, including the remote worker visa, require insurance.

Indonesia's national health insurance (BPJS Kesehatan) covers GPs, hospital care, surgery, maternity, and mental health. Work and family permit holders are enrolled automatically after six months, but retirees, digital nomads, and Second Home visa holders aren't eligible at all.
For expat care, private hospitals in Jakarta and Bali (such as Siloam and BIMC) handle matters in English.

Pharmacies are easy to find in cities: Kimia Farma, K-24 (which is open 24/7), Guardian, and Watsons. Though they're sparse in rural areas. English is common in tourist areas. Antibiotics, codeine, and sleeping pills need a prescription, and ADHD stimulants are tightly restricted.

Dial 112 or 119 for an ambulance. Response times in central Jakarta are 10–15 minutes but often 30+ in traffic; Bali is slower, and rural areas have no reliable ambulance service. English on the national lines is hit-or-miss, so most expats call their hospital's direct ER line.

Without cover, the bills add up fast: a private GP visit runs about IDR 800,000 (€39), and a hospital night costs around IDR 8.8 million (€425).
If you're employed, 5% of your gross salary funds the national scheme (4% from your employer, 1% from you), up to a salary cap of IDR 12 million (€580). If you're self-employed, you pay a flat monthly premium by tier (about IDR 42,000 (€2) for the basic class up to IDR 150,000 (€7) for the top one).
Our plans start at €56/month for Essential and €84/month for Plus. You'll get outpatient and inpatient care, plus dental, mental health, maternity, and medical evacuation to Singapore (which most domestic plans leave out).
Most Indonesian KITAS visas require private health insurance. The retirement KITAS (E33F) needs at least IDR 25 million (around €1,210) in cover, and the remote worker visa (E33G) requires long-term residency cover (not travel insurance).

Feather plans qualify for the retirement KITAS (E33F), remote worker visa (E33G), Second Home visa, and investor, family, and work permits.
Your confirmation of cover is in your account the moment you sign up, ready for Indonesian immigration, with an Indonesian (Bahasa) translation available.
